Welcome to the WYB Volleyball Website

Please join me in welcoming Max Miller as a New Director of Volleyball and board member for WYB.   Max Miller is the owner of Mintonette Volleyball  and his children go to Worthington Hills elementary .    He brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge to our league that you will not find anywhere else in the United States.

He has been working with us the last 2 seasons.  Last season he ran skills clinics and this year as we were unable to have a season due to the facility issues brought about by COVID, he stepped in and offered to help run our 4-6th grade leagues.  We would have had no season without this.

Welcome Max Miller !

Girls Volleyball

For those girls interetsed in trying out for Club volleyball this year:

It looks like with COVID restrictions on number of people allowed in the gym at one time, many clubs are having to spread out their tryouts this year.  They will be held over the weekend of Oct 24th and Nov 1st.  I encourage you to try out for more than one club because there is no guarantee they will make a team at tryouts.

To try out they will need to bring 2 forms with them to each club tryout:

1.  OVR Membership Card-  The Ohio Valley Regions(OVR)  is our region in USA Volleyball and is the governing board for our area.  They offer a tryouts membership for $10.  A full membership is $62 and must be purchased if you make a team.

2.  USA Volleyball medical waiver -a copy of this should be on each clubs tryout page

Club Volleyball levels:

Regional:  This is the level with the least time/cost committment in club volleyball.  Tournaments are typically within our region( Ohio)   They are completed in one day( start at 8am and finish by mid afternoon)   Practice 1-2 times/week

Some of the local clubs are offering introductory leagues that fit into this level to give kids a good taste of club volleyball with less cost and money.,   This would be mostly for under 11year olds.  Mintonette, Elite and Buckeye Volleyball are offering them.

American:  This is the next level up.  Higher skill level.  Practice twice a week with tournaments usually lasting 2 days.  Starting early saturday and ending mid afternoon Sunday.   Tournaments are usually driving distance.  ie Indianapolis,  Louisville but many are in state.   Practices 2 times /week

National :  Highest time/money committment but also usually the highest skill level.  Colleges recruit usually out of this level.  Tournaments can be anywhere but most clubs limit them from being too far because of cost.     Tournaments typically last 2-3 days.   Practices 2-3 times/week.

Most of the local clubs are offering skill and tryout clinics and I suggest if you are thinking of tryout out to sign up for some.  The clinics are typically run like a tryout. I would recommend these through the year even if you are not playing club to gain skill.

Let me know if you have any questions about the local clubs or tryouts in general.   I usually try to talk to people during the season but since we were unable to have  WYB sports in the gyms at Worthington this Fall I was unable to.   Good luck if you are trying out and let me know how it goes.  I really want to know!!  Also if you have feedback on how this Fall went I would also like to hear from you.

Boys Volleyball-

Boys Middle School volleyball is a club sport.  Since the Worthington Schools are not able to run this WYB has been asked to help organize.  The league is in line with the other middle school sports and games are against other OCC teams, typically on Monday and Wednedays starting in April.    Our intent is to have a team for each middle school.  We will need a coach and administrator for each of these teams.

Boys Middle School volleyball registration will open Jan 1 2021.  The season will run March 1 through mid May and conclude with a MS tournament .   At this time we do not have tryouts, but in the future if numbers rise, this may be necessary.   Gym space is a premium in Worthington in the spring and we struggle every year to obtain practice and game space.  I expect this to continue with the opening of Perry MS and the loss of the gym at Phoenix.  If anyone has any ideas/options for gym space, it would be appreciated.

Open gyms have been run by the TWHS coach during January and February so please check back for dates.
